San Marcellino is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,517 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . The municipality is located in the Terra di Lavoro about 15 kilometers southwest of Caserta and about 16 kilometers north-northwest of Naples .

history

The area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age. Significant settlements did not emerge until the time of the Lombards' rule and later from the 11th / 12th. Century during the reign of Rainulf Drengot .

San Marcellino is cut through by Strada Provinciale 335 , a bypass of the greater Naples-Caserta area. The San Marcellino-Frignano station is on the Roma – Formia – Napoli line .
