Maddaloni is an Italian municipality (comune) with 38,219 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . Maddaloni is about five kilometers southeast of Caserta and about 25 kilometers northeast of Naples . The community lies at the foot of the Tifata Mountains (Monti di Maddaloni) . The municipality borders on the metropolitan city of Naples .

history

The city was probably founded in the 8th century. Fortifications have been detectable since that time. Near Maddaloni was the ancient city of Calatia . From 1465 the Maddaloni rule belonged as titular duchy of the Neapolitan noble family Carafa .

The city was a stage of the Giro d'Italia several times .

Strada Statale 7 crosses Maddaloni. The Strada Statale 265 forms a bypass from northeast to southwest in a clockwise direction. South of Maddaloni, the A30 autostrada runs from Caserta towards Fisciano . There is a rail connection for the railway line from Caserta to Benevento as well as to Avellino .
