Frignano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9209 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . The municipality is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Caserta and about 18 kilometers northwest of Naples .

history

The name suggests an early Roman origin. It may be based on a Roman family name ( Furnius or Furinius ). The place name Forum Iani can also be considered . Such a temple complex could be the foundations of the Church of Maria dell'Arco . The community is mentioned as Forignani maioris from 1100 . Even before that was Ferrayanu been called.

The municipality is located on the former Strada Statale 265 dei Ponti della valle , which has now been downgraded to provincial road 355. The San Marcellino-Frignano station is on the Rome – Formia – Naples line .
