Piedimonte Matese is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,689 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . It is part of the Comunità Montana del Matese . The municipality is located at the Parco Regionale del Matese about 31 kilometers north of Caserta and about 29 kilometers southeast of Isernia . Piedimonte Matese borders directly on the provinces of Benevento and Campobasso .
While the municipality initially belonged to the province of Caserta until 1927, it then came to the province of Benevento, only to be added to the province of Caserta in 1945. Since 1975 the municipality is no longer called Piedimonte d'Alife , but bears the current name. Sometimes the compound Piedimonte Matese d'Alife is also used. Since 2003 the municipality has been called città (city).

The municipality is crossed by the Strada Statale 158 . In Piedimonte Matese is the terminus and terminus of the Ferrovia Alifana , whose railway line extends from here to the station of Santa Maria Capua Vetere .
