The Cockerell Peninsula is an ice-covered and pear-shaped peninsula between Lafond Bay and Huon Bay on the north coast of the Antarctic Trinity Peninsula .
It was discovered during the French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of Jules Dumont d'Urville . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) named them in 1977 in honor of the British engineer Christopher Cockerell (1910-1999), the inventor of the hovercraft .
