Cognos, An IBM Company is a software company that provides performance management and business performance management solutions. The headquarters are in Ottawa , Canada . In Germany, the company headquarters are in Frankfurt am Main .
On January 31, 2008, IBM announced the completion of the acquisition of Cognos.
Cognos was founded in 1969 under the name Quasar and renamed to its current name, Cognos, in 1982. The company currently employs around 3,500 people and supports well over 20,000 customers almost all over the world.
Cognos offers solutions for business intelligence , planning , performance management and company consolidation. Competitors are Oracle (including Hyperion Solutions ), SAP (including Business Objects , Cartesis ), SAS Institute , Microsoft and MicroStrategy .
In addition, the company organizes Cognos Performance , one of the largest events on the subject of performance management in Germany.
