music

We Came as Romans mostly return to their musical roots on Cold Like War . On the two previous albums - Tracing Back Roots (2013) and We Came as Romans (2015), named after the band - the harsh sounds were reduced in favor of more radio suitability. Although the fourth album was named after the band, the musicians quickly felt that this would not represent the band properly. The first four albums build on each other and follow a concept. After fulfilling the record contract with Equal Vision Records and switching to SharpTone Records , this conception was declared ended.

Reviews

According to Sonata from Stormbringer.at , the group delivered one of the biggest and most positive surprises of 2017 with Cold Like War . The critic calls the album as mature and grown-up that uses all strengths for itself and at the same time delivers innovations. The album shows what possibilities post-hardcore still has in 2017. Jan Wischkowski from Metal.de writes that on Cold Like War basically everything stayed the same, only better. The album, according to Wischkowski, leads the listener astray from time to time, but the band keeps their signature. That means that the musicians do not shy away from experiments.

Manuel Berger from Laut.de, on the other hand, finds that the album collapses more and more per run. At some point you can no longer mistake how insubstantial the songs on the album are and how there is no common thread. According to the reviewer, the musicians were so fixated on integrating more metal into their sound that they didn't notice they were playing the same thing over and over again. The album only offers excellent motivation to crack your skull in the mosh pit.
