geography

The village church

The village is on road no. 348, the through road towards the district town of Soure. It is the closest place to the eponymous center in the Samuel congregation.

history

After the village of Samuel had been the seat of its own community since the 16th century at the latest, the population there decreased since the end of the 19th century. The village of Coles grew, however, so that the municipal administration and all important institutions were moved from the increasingly disintegrating village of Samuel to nearby Coles. Today Samuel only consists of the church with cemetery and parish hall, so that Coles is the actual parish seat.

In the unusually cold winter of 2010/2011, the national television broadcaster SIC reported from Coles on the effects of the cold on people's everyday lives, especially young school children.
