Colin Metters

Colin Metters (* 1948 ) is a British conductor and music teacher .

In 1983 Metters initiated the courses for conductors at the Royal Academy of Music , which he held until 2013. He has conducted well-known British orchestras and has worked as a guest conductor in Poland, Spain, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Venezuela, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, France, Greece and New Zealand. Since it was founded in 1979, he has been the musical director and chief conductor of the East Sussex Youth Orchestra . He became musical advisor and principal guest conductor of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and in 1999 was the first British citizen to receive the Order of Merit of the Republic of Vietnam.

In addition to the classical and romantic repertoire, he also performed numerous works by contemporary composers such as John Harvey , John Lambert , Matthew Taylor , Augusta Read Thomas , Leonard Salzedo , Ewen Bennett , Adam Gorb and Nicola Lefanu . He commissioned Robin Holloway's Clarinet Concerto, which he premiered in 1996 with the soloist Andrew Marriner, and was invited by Krzysztof Penderecki to perform his First Symphony with the Krakow Symphony Orchestra. In 2004 he performed works by Igor Stravinsky and Arnold Schoenberg at Lincoln Center with the New York City Ballet .
