Colin Patterson (paleontologist)

Colin Patterson (* 13. October 1933 in Hammersmith , † 9. March 1998 in London ) was a British vertebrate - paleontologist .

Life

Patterson was a senior paleontologist at the British Museum of Natural History . He dealt in particular with fossil fish and the use of cladistics methods in paleontology.

In 1997 he received the Romer-Simpson Medal of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology . He was a Fellow of the Royal Society (1993).

Dedication names

Phoberomys pattersoni , one of the largest fossil rodents, is named after Colin Patterson .
