Colin Arthur Wood (born June 15, 1943 in Camberwell ) is a British jazz and studio musician ( piano , organ , flute ).

Wood spent his childhood from 1959 in Wells , Somerset. He learned a little boogie and jazz on the piano against the resistance of his environment and already played in local bands as a student. Between 1962 and 1965 he studied mathematics at Durham University , but was also active in student bands. After graduation, he moved back to London in 1966, where he played with Bill Niles Delta Jazz Band and toured with Whistling Jack Smith before moving to Monty Sunshine in 1968 . He was also active as a studio musician and played for The Yardbirds as well as for Cat Stevens , Kevin Coynes Siren and for Uriah Heep ( Very 'eavy ... Very' umble ). After an engagement on a cruise ship with Bill Nile's band, he first gave up music in 1969 to work as a math teacher. In September 1977 he then joined Acker Bilk , in whose bands he was active for more than thirty years. Occasionally he also worked with Wild Bill Davison , George Masso , Billy Butterfield , Kenny Davern , Ken Peplowski and with musicians from the camp of British modern jazz such as Ray Warleigh , Lol Coxhill , Jim Mullen , Henry Lowther and Dick Morrissey . He is also a member of the Pete Allen Jazz Band .

Wood should not be confused with the eponymous cellist of free improvisation music.
