history
In 1989, the Amiens City Council recognized the need to replace the Palais des Sports Pierre de Coubertin , built in the 1960s , with a modern sports arena. During the construction of the foundations in 1993, four Gallo-Roman houses from the 1st and 2nd centuries were uncovered. A total of 8 tons of material (including ceramics, bronze, iron, gold, ivory) were excavated.
On January 5, 1996, the Coliséum was opened after two and a half years of construction. With 2,882 seats (and a maximum of 3,400 seats), the arena was the largest with a permanent ice surface in France at the time. In 1997, the French figure skating championships were held; In addition, the men's ice hockey world championship (Division I, Group A) in 2006 and the U20 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship (Division I, Group A) in 2013 took place in the arena.
