Colisepticemia in poultry
The septicemia or colibacillosis is a septicaemic infectious disease of poultry caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli is caused.
etiology
Most common are E. coli strains of the serotypes O1: K1, O2: K1 and O78: K80. The following virulence factors occur:
- Fimbriae F1 → colonization of the respiratory tract
- P-fimbriae F7 – F16 → colonization of internal organs
- heat-labile enterotoxins
- Flagellar toxin (heat-stable polypeptide ) → toxic for Vero cells and day-old chicks
- HPI (high pathogenity island) → characteristic of virulent strains, codes for an iron uptake system
clinic
The disease occurs most frequently in the first 8-10 weeks of life, but it is also common in laying hens. Infection occurs aerogenically through inhaled dust. Highly virulent strains play a major role in young chicks, later factors play an increasing role. The clinic is very diverse: increased embryo and premature mortality, inflammation of the air sacs , the yolk sac , the pericardium , the serous membranes , the subcutaneous tissue and the fallopian tubes .
diagnosis
The diagnosis is made on the basis of a bacteriological examination and typing of the coliform bacteria .
therapy
Antibiotic therapy according to the antibiogram . There is a parent animal vaccine . In addition, eliminating the favorable factors by preventing mycoplasma and viral infections.
