Collabora is a global, private company with headquarters in Cambridge ( England ). Apart from the office in Cambridge, there is another one in Montreal ( Canada ). Most employees do not work at either of the two locations, but are distributed around the world and work from home or in a coworking space . Collabora advises, trains and supports companies in the field of open source , such as B. the Linux kernel , GStreamer or LibreOffice .

Collabora was originally focused on instant messaging , VoIP and video conferencing technology, but the company has since expanded to provide general support in multimedia, mobile web technologies, collaborative infrastructure, automotive infotainment platforms and graphics optimization. Collabora subsidiary Collabora Productivity is one of the main developers of the LibreOffice Suite.

In 2015, Crown Commercial Service announced the launch of Collabora GovOffice and the Collabora CloudSuite across all UK government nonprofits .

Funded and supported projects

  • LibreOffice : Collabora Productivity sells support and development services for the office package. In September 2013, Collabora took over the LibreOffice development team from SUSE .
The company also announced a collaboration with IceWarp to work on LibreOffice Online .
On December 15, 2015, the company announced a partnership with OwnCloud and released CODE (Collabora Online Development Edition), a distribution of LibreOffice Online and the ownCloud server.
On June 2, 2016, the company Collabora Online released 1.0 Engine , which it describes as the first stable version.
On November 2, 2016, the company released CODE 2.0 , which brings a new feature that is frequently requested by users: collaborative editing.
LibreOffice versions customized by Collabora are LibreOffice-From-Collabora , Collabora Office, and Collabora GovOffice .
There is also a supported version of LibreOffice Online called Collabora Online for use on servers in combination with file synchronization solutions such as Nextcloud .
