Collide is an American trip-hop / synth-rock duo supported by Danny Carey from the group Tool on the album Some Kind of Strange (2003), among others .

Band history

In 1988 Statik released a solo EP . He met his partner kaRIN for the first time in a night club. After the two got to know each other better, they wanted to make music together. For this purpose they formed the band Collide. While Statik is responsible for the music, karRin takes care of the vocals and the lyrics.

The first demo The Crimson Trial was released in 1995. The debut album Beneath the Skin was released in two versions, one for the European market, which was initially only available as an import. A version for the American market followed, but had a different list of titles. Cargo Records took over the American distribution , while the German version was distributed by SPV . In 1998 the remix album Distort was released . Guest musicians are sometimes hired for the albums.

From the 2000 work Chasing the Ghost, the duo released all other albums on their own record company Noiseplus Music . The Secret Meeting project , which Statik and kaRIN founded together with Dean Garcia von Curve , also appeared there.

In 2009, These Eyes Before , a cover CD was released, on which the well-known songs Creep by Radiohead and Space Oddity by David Bowie can be heard.

In addition to the official projects, the duo is also responsible for the programming on Tools Undertow and Lateralus . Various well-known artists such as Charlie Clouser are also represented on their remix albums .

In the course of the discography, a clear trend from the initially very electro-influenced music towards a more complex, rockier style of music can be seen. This can be explained by the increasing collaboration with guest musicians such as the drummer Danny Carey from Tool or the guitarist Scott Landes from the US rock band Mankind is Obsolete.

Music genre

The duo mixes elements from trip-hop, dark wave and techno . At the same time they make use of the music of the Middle East . In terms of text, they use the stories from the Arabian Nights .
