Collotheca libera is a species of the genus Collotheca from the tribe of the rotifers (Rotatoria).
description
The animals grow to a length of 120 to 170 µm and, in contrast to most species of the Collotheca genus, do not live in a sedentary manner , but in plankton . On the edge of the muzzle is a rag with long eyelash bristles; the edge of the crown is otherwise briefly ciliated. There are two lens eyes in the dorsal lobe . The foot end is thickened and the jelly of the case is glassy. The animals swim head first.
distribution
The animals can be found solitary in the plankton in lakes and ponds from July to October.
