In 1880 the old chapel was built in the village, which for many years held an important position in the village and served both as a chapel and a school. In a meeting on March 4, 1883, it was decided to build a house for the pastor next to the chapel. On May 31, 1883, the Protestant Waldensian Church of Colonia Cosmopolita was founded and on October 12 of that year the pastor Pedro Bounous settled here, under whose direction the chapel was then expanded. Church services, Sunday school classes and religious instruction were held in French in the first few years. The Colonia Cosmopolita church building was opened on February 25, 1915.
