Sverre These (born November 18, 1949 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian general and was from 2005 to 2009 military commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces ( Norges Forsvarssjef ).
biography
After attending school, he studied civil engineering and then worked as a civil engineer before joining the armed forces, where he graduated from the war school between 1976 and 1979 . This was followed by his promotion to lieutenant and then to captain (1983), major (1988), lieutenant colonel (1991) and then to colonel (1996).
In 1998 he was promoted to brigadier general and as such was chief of the department for strategy and long-term planning in the general staff of the high command from 1998 to 2001 . This was followed in 2001 by his promotion to major general and at the same time he was appointed head of the Northern Norway District Command. In 2002 he moved to the post of commander of the land forces .
He was then promoted to Lieutenant General in 2003 and between 2003 and 2005 was Military Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Defense and thus a close collaborator of Defense Minister Kristin Krohn Devold .
After his promotion to general, Sverre This was appointed Military Commander of the Armed Forces in 2005. He held this position until he retired at the end of September 2009.
