Haakon Stephen Bruun-Hanssen (born July 8, 1960 in Bergen ) is an officer in the Norwegian Navy and was in command of the Norwegian armed forces with the rank of admiral from 2013 to 2020 .

Life

Military career

Bruun-Hanssen began his military career in 1980. In 1981 he was promoted to lieutenant , and from 1983 to 1987 he studied at the Norwegian Naval Academy. From 1987 to 1995 Bruun-Hanssen served in the Norwegian submarine fleet, from 1991 as commander first on the boat Kobben , from 1993 on the Utstein with the 1st submarine squadron in Haakonsvern .

After taking part in the staff officer course in 1995, Bruun-Hanssen was transferred to the staff of the Norwegian Navy. From 1999 to 2001 he taught, meanwhile as a corvette captain , at the command academy of the Norwegian armed forces in the subject of military history and strategy . In 2006 Bruun-Hanssen became Chief of Staff of the Navy, in 2008 as Rear Admiral Inspector of the Navy and in 2011 Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Armed Forces. In 2013 he was promoted to admiral and commander of the Norwegian armed forces. In May 2020, Eirik Johan Kristoffersen was appointed as his successor as Bruun-Hanssen was approaching the age limit of 60 years.

Private

Haakon Bruun-Hanssen is married and has two children.
