background
Enter Shikari started work on their second album towards the end of 2008 and demonstrated some songs and the development of the album before it was published in numerous blogs on the internet platform Youtube .
At the end of September 2008, the band showed a live video of the single Antwerp for the first time on their YouTube channel. At the same time a video was released for the single Juggernauts .
The new album was recorded in Arreton Manor / Isle of Wight (an island in the south of Great Britain). Several new songs were played either live on tours or at festivals before the album was released. The album has numerous political motifs as well as references to the current economic situation.
The new single, Juggernauts , was in on Thursday, April 15, 2009 Radio 1 Zane Lowe show premiered and it was a video on the site published the band. "Rou" Reynolds said Kerrang! later that the band was inspired in creating this song by the book Tescopoly by the author Andrew Simms .

A little later, the album's second single - No Sleep Tonight - was released on August 17, 2009.

Content and texts
The album has seen a distinct stylistic change compared to the first album, Take to the Skies . Above all, more clear vocals and a mixture of several electronic music styles such as drum and bass , electro house or dubstep are needed. However, trance and post-hardcore elements are still present.
There is also a drastic, lyrical change in this album. The band used to write lyrics on various subjects and used a lot of metaphor .
In Common Dreads , the band is more concerned with socio-political issues such as: B. in Step Up , a song that criticizes free world trade. The song No Sleep Tonight talks about today's ecological situation. The song Fanfare for the Conscious Man has lyrical connotations for the injustice of various government wars. In this song, the band clearly expresses their anti-war views with the lyrics “Our gracious queen should grasp her crown, and take a good fucking swing at Blair and Brown”. The band brings further political ideas to the song Juggernauts , which ends with the words: "The idea of community wants to be something displayed in a museum". This is to be interpreted as a reference to an anti-capitalist and pro-collective attitude.
