The CEMS manages the issuing of the CEMS-MIM qualification in its member schools, it supports the CEMS-Alumni-Verein (CAA) and the general cooperation between its members.

Since it was founded in 2005, the CEMS MIM has consistently been listed in the top 10 in the Financial Times Masters in Management Ranking .

history

The Alliance was founded on December 2nd, 1988. The founding universities / faculties were the University of Cologne and the Bocconi business schools, ESADE and the HEC in charge. This was preceded by informal mutual student exchange programs at the beginning of the 1980s, with recognition of the course achievements agreed upon abroad. On the German side, the exchange with the HEC began on the basis of a scholarship program, initially for a term / semester, which was funded by the DAAD for a fixed number of Cologne students of economics courses within the then Integrated Study Abroad (IAS) program, which was then passed on to the partners of the lead university in Europe and (only with fee waiver) outside of Europe, the International Management Program . An internship abroad, mediated and supervised by specially responsible persons from the universities, was included from the start. With the founding of CEMS, the program was gradually more formalized and expanded to align the course content with cooperation between university teachers. The grants were for the beneficiaries from the since its establishment in 1987, the Erasmus program of the European Union adopted. With the conversion of the academic degrees to the Bachelor - Master system, the exchange program can be carried out as a double degree as part of the Master’s program.

CEMS MIM

The CEMS Master's in International Management (CEMS MIM) is a one-year course that is taught jointly by the CEMS business schools and universities. This course is open to students from the member universities. The CEMS MIM is a supranational Master of Science. The aim of the program is to set a global standard of excellence for management master’s programs (with prior experience) by providing education and research - for students who strive to assume a leading role in the development and direction of companies in a global context - to offer.

These people should demonstrate leadership quality by:

  • High academic standards and professional skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a rapidly changing environment
  • Empathy with different cultures, values and behaviors
  • Willingness to take responsibility in society

CEMS MIM consists of a basic semester (usually part of the standard course at the home university) followed by at least one semester abroad at a CEMS partner university. In addition to completing a degree at home, completing a CEMS degree also requires the successful completion of a business project, a “skills” seminar, an international internship and two foreign language exams. The CEMS MIM is an academic degree with a focus on practical business skills, language skills and international experience.

Every academic CEMS member has a limited number of places available for admission to the CEMS MIM. Admission requirements include a high grade point average and proof of language skills.

The selection process differs slightly between academic members; however, it is often necessary to be already enrolled or selected for a Master of Business Degree at a member university before applying for the CEMS MIM. All CEMS graduates receive a degree from their home institution as well as from the CEMS, which is why the CEMS MIM is often referred to as a "dual degree" or "joint degree".

CEMS corporate partner

The CEMS comprises 71 partner companies that contribute financially on an annual basis and the program with human resources and input to the curriculum. That is, they sketch courses, lectures, or invite CEMS students to company activities where the students learn certain company practices or solve cases. This should give the students an insight into real company problems and possible solutions.

CEMS social partners

The first CEMS social partner joined the organization in December 2010. This is the first in a series of non-profit and NGOs that contribute to the alliance in the same way as the corporate partners (selection and admission of students, governance, contributions to the curriculum, suggestions for internships and employment opportunities). This new initiative is part of a larger sustainability approach within the CEMS. At the same time, CEMS also signed the PRME declaration (Principles for Responsible Management Education).

CEMS Alumni Association (CAA)

The CEMS Alumni Association (CAA) enables the multicultural experience of the CEMS graduates to develop. Founded in 1993 by CEMS graduates, the association is an international network of CEMS graduates. To date, 13,000 students have graduated from CEMS and are in the process of becoming CEMS alumni.

The CAA is led by an alumni board and is represented in several countries by the local committees (LCs), which consist of CEMS alumni. The LCS are responsible for the contact with the CEMS alumni and the organization of professional and social activities. They meet regularly to discuss the association's activities and development. The Alumni Board consists of: the CAA President, the CEMS Executive Director, a representative of the CEMS student board, a representative of the CEMS member universities, 3 local committee representatives, 2 senior alumni and 2 junior alumni.

The Alumni Board has the task of supporting the CEMS alumni community with proposals and the development of initiatives that reflect the CAA goals in the career planning of their alumni members and personal development opportunities. The alumni board also represents the interests of the alumni on the CEMS board and supports the development of the CEMS alliance. In addition, the CEMS Alumni Association supports alumni to have a positive impact on management education, business, global governance and society.
