The old main building of the Nova SBE

The Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa is the leading business school in Portugal. The university is accredited with the so-called Triple Crown (university accreditation ) and is therefore one of the top 1% of business schools worldwide. In addition, it is the only university in Portugal to offer the globally renowned CEMS Master in Management, which is ranked 8th in the world according to the Financial Times Ranking. Due to the increasing demand for students, especially in an international context, the Nova SBE opened a new ultra-modern campus in Carcavelos in 2018 .

history

The name Nova SBE was created through a rebranding of the economics faculty of the New University of Lisbon , which was founded in 1978. The new University of Lisbon was founded in 1973 to diversify the university landscape of Portugal as an interdisciplinary research university in Lisbon.

Due to the increasing number of students, a completely new campus has been built in Carcavelos in recent years . The site was made available to the university by the Portuguese government. An innovative architecture competition was used to decide how the new campus should be designed. The former headquarters, a former Jesuit school from the 18th century, is located in the north of Lisbon in Campolide .

International connections

Nova SBE maintains partnerships with over 200 universities from over 50 different countries and offers a total of 19 different double degree programs. Every year 700 Nova SBE students go to partner universities and just as many students visit Nova SBE for an exchange.
The partner universities include: University of Mannheim , WHU Koblenz , Vienna University of Economics and Business , Indian Institute of Management , Tsinghua University , Luigi Bocconi University of Economics , ESADE Barcelona, Stockholm University of Economics , University of St. Gallen , Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and London School of Economics .

Nova SBE has been a member of the CEMS universities since 2007 and was CEMS School of the Year in 2009 and 2010 . With accreditations from AACSB , AMBA and EQUIS , Nova SBE is one of 89 business schools worldwide that have a Triple Crown . Nova SBE has been a member of the PIM network (Partnership in International Management) since 2017.

In Angola , Nova SBE has been running another business school, the Angola Business School, since 2010 .

Faculty and Institutes

In total, there are more than 40 chairs in economics, business and finance that teach the various Bachelor and Master courses. With professors from 25 nations, the international orientation of teaching is underlined. By outsourcing the economics faculty of the university as a business school , the faculty has extensive autonomy and covers the entire teaching and research facilities of the New Lisbon University in the field of economics. The scientific sub-areas and subject areas of economics, business and finance are divided into, in some cases independently, institutes and are each headed by a managing director.

Intra-university cooperation

The institutes work closely together in research. In a joint research unit, the Research Unit, the institutes and their researchers are integrated into a unit with an interdisciplinary orientation.

There are also six other Knowledge Centers , each focusing on a specific topic and researching it:

  • The NOVA Finance Center
  • Leadership & Society Center
  • Economics for Policy
  • Healthcare Initiative Research
  • Nova Center for Environmental Economics
  • NOVAFRICA
