features

The bugs are 3.4 to 4.0 millimeters long. They have a pale yellow-gray base color, which is often interrupted by brown spots along the hemielytres . The hemielytres also have dark spots on the membrane. The hemielytric cuneus is pale. The thighs ( femora ) of the hind legs are dark, especially towards the tip.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is widespread in almost all of Europe and occurs east to Siberia and Korea. It was introduced into North America by humans. It is widespread in Germany and Austria, but mostly rarely, and locally it can also be rare. Sunny, dry as well as moist habitats, such as forest edges or isolated bushes, are settled.

Way of life

The bugs live mainly on common hazel ( Corylus avellana ), more rarely on other deciduous trees such as willow ( Salix ), alder ( Alnus ), honeysuckle ( Lonicera ), oak ( Quercus ) or linden ( Tilia ), and occasionally also Rubus species. They feed on zoophytophagus and suck both sap and mites, for example . The adult bugs can be seen from mid / late July to late September. The species forms one generation per year.
