comtech Computersysteme GmbH was a large retail company in the computer sector founded in 1985 and went bankrupt in 2003 . The Comtech brand was still used in online trading, but this company also filed for bankruptcy on September 4, 2019.

history

Foundation and advancement

In 1985, the Comtech sales company for communication systems was founded by Joachim Bäurle, then 25, in Stuttgart . In 1987 the first branch was opened in Stuttgart. In 1990 the company moved into the new headquarters in Waiblingen .

The company tried to offer new technologies as quickly as possible. In January 1993 all Comtech PCs were serially equipped with the ZIF socket for the CPU . In October 1993 the VESA Local Bus was first introduced in Europe . In February 1994, the energy-saving Green PC was introduced as the first in Europe . In December 1995 the 100th Comtech branch was opened.

In August 1996 Comtech acquired all rights to the Escom brand and took over 90 Escom branches in Germany. Escom 2001 GmbH was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary. In August 1997, a strategic cooperation agreement was signed with IBM . Comtech exclusively manufactured and marketed the IBM consumer PCs of the Aptiva brand. In September 1997 Comtech increased its stake in the French Escom from 65 to 100 percent.

Realignment

In September 1997 the group of companies was realigned to focus on consumption. Since then, the Comtech and Escom chain stores have been operated under the common comtech brand . In December 1997 the new COMTECH trademark was introduced, which replaced the previous PACOMP own brand .

In November 1998 Comtech and the telephone company Mobilcom entered into a strategic alliance. In September 1999 Comtech was integrated into the Mobilcom group.

bankruptcy

On July 18, 2002, Mobilcom announced that it would close the 62 branches and set up a social plan for the 182 permanent and 143 part-time employees. On July 31, 2002, the Trend-e-pak group from Wolfsburg took over the main business of the Comtech group of companies (Comtech Computersysteme GmbH and Comtech 2001 Computersysteme GmbH). On March 13, 2003 ComTech Computersysteme GmbH and ComTech 2001 Computersysteme GmbH filed for insolvency. On November 28, 2019, sales via the online shop were discontinued and the company was closed.

brand names

In the spring of 2004 the brand name comtech and the domain comtech.de were bought by Joachim Ehmann and comtech GmbH was founded in Backnang . The company is active as an Internet trading platform under this name. In 2010 the company headquarters were relocated to nearby Aspach. The Comtech brand name is protected in Germany. In 2015, the Norwegian Complete Group , the largest online retailer in Scandinavia, took over the majority of Comtech GmbH and continued to operate online retail under the label. At the beginning of September 2019, he filed for bankruptcy at the district court in Stuttgart ( file number 5 IN 452/19). Business operations were discontinued at the end of November 2019 after no investor was found to continue the company.

A company of the same name exists as comtech it-solutions GmbH in Austria. There the name Comtech is protected by trademark.
