Conan is a special operations military dog for the US Delta Forces . He is a male Belgian Malinois and, after talk show presenter Conan O'Brien named. On October 27, 2019, Conan took part in Operation Kayla Mueller in Syria , carried out by US special forces , in which Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , the leader of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), was killed. The dog is said to have chased al-Baghdadi in a tunnel after he was caught by the emergency services, in which al-Baghdadi finally detonated his explosive vest . The dog is said to have been slightly injured during the operation.

According to several sources, Conan is originally from the Netherlands and was around five years old at the time of the mission.

After the operation, US President Donald Trump published a first photo of Conan on Twitter . The dog's name was first revealed on Newsweek . Trump later tweeted a photo montage in which he gave Conan a kind of dog variant of the bronze Medal of Honor in the shape of a paw, with the subtitle “ American Hero! “(German American hero! ).

On November 25, 2019, Conan and his dog handler met with President Trump, his wife Melania Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in the White House . Conan was then introduced to the press in the White House Rose Garden .
