Condroz is a natural region in Belgium .

It is located in the Walloon provinces of Liège , Luxembourg (just a little), Hainaut and Namur . Its capital is the city of Ciney . It is bounded in the north by the Hespengau and in the south by the Fagne region (not to be confused with the High Fens , French Hautes Fagnes ) and the Famenne region . The municipalities of Huy , Dinant , Florennes , Esneux , Yvoir and Nandrin are in the Condroz .

The Condroz is an area very divided by valleys. The soil consists of sandstone, quartzite, limestone and slate. The mountain ranges consist mostly of less fertile sandstone, they are predominantly forested. Lowlands often have a clayey or calcareous soil, here are fields and meadows.

The name of the region probably goes back to the Celto-Germanic people of the Condruser of the Gallic Wars , who are believed to have inhabited this area.

Between 1275 and 1278 the so-called " Cow War " took place in the Condroz , which was fought between Namur and Liège and resulted in around 15,000 deaths. It went back to the theft of a cow, which the stakeholders involved used as an excuse to start a war.
