Conrad von Einbeck
Conrad von Einbeck (* 1360 ; † 1428 ) was a German stonemason , master builder and sculptor.
He was the first sculptor of the late Middle Ages to leave a self-portrait in addition to depictions of saints in a church . This is extraordinary because the confident artist did not become common until the Renaissance . Wilhelm von Bode therefore called him one of the earliest German sculptors of the Renaissance. His portrait, carved in stone, can be seen alongside a collection of equally impressive depictions of saints on a column of the Moritzkirche in Halle an der Saale .
