Conradin Riola
Conradin Riola (also Conradino Riolano ; * probably 1667 or 1670 in Sent ; † 1743 in Ftan ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman and theological writer.
Life
Conradin Riola came from Sent and probably had a younger brother named Joannes in Graubünden's Lower Engadine . From 1686 he can be proven as a student in Zurich and was probably trained by a clergyman. In Ilanz he was accepted by the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod on June 22, 1690. This allowed him to work as a pastor in the Free State of the Three Leagues .
In 1693 Riola received a pastor's post in his home village Sent. In 1711 he moved to Ftan, where he worked until his death in 1743. He left four sons. His son of the same name is considered the most important Rhaeto-Romanic poet of the first half of the 18th century.
Act
Riola is known as a theological writer. He wrote several works. Since his call to Ftan, he has written in Romansh . His first work, Trommeta spirituala , in German spiritual trumpet , appeared in 1709 and is considered to be his main work. In it he judged negative traits of churchgoers, especially sleeping and snoring during the sermon. To this end, he collected speeches and poems against such churchgoers.
Another work, a translation, appeared in 1718, Martyrologium . Riola translated and edited the two volumes Le livre des martyrs by Jean Crespin , in which details of those who were persecuted and killed for reasons of faith in Europe were given about their lives and the way of death. Only the part of this work that covers the period up to 1560 was published. This font was still important to Graubünden historians around the middle of the 19th century.
