Life

Crețulescu came from an old boyar family and was the son of Alexandru Creţulescu and Anei Câmpineanu. He was the older brother of Nicolae Crețulescu , who was also Prime Minister of the Principality of Wallachia in 1859 and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Romania from 1862 to 1863 and between 1865 and 1866. He himself entered the army of the Principality of Wallachia as a sub-lieutenant in 1831 and retired from active military service as a major in 1840 . Almost six weeks later, on April 8, 1859, he replaced Filipescu as Prime Minister and became Prime Minister of the Principality of Wallachia himself. He held this post until his replacement by his brother Nicolae Crețulescu on September 18, 1859.

On February 21, 1867 Crețulescu Ion Ghica replaced as Prime Minister (Președinții Consiliului de Miniștri) of the Principality of Romania and held this post until August 5, 1867, whereupon Ștefan Golescu succeeded him.
