Constantin Guise
Constantin Guise (born May 1, 1811 in Kassel , † October 16, 1858 in Basel ) was a Swiss watercolorist , theater and decoration painter and lithographer .
Constantin Guise was born the son of a French theater painter who was brought to Kassel by the King of Westphalia , Jérôme Bonaparte , and employed in the local theater. He became a student of Justus Krauskopf . At the age of 16 he worked as a decorative painter in the court theater.
In 1831 he moved to Karlsruhe , in 1833 he settled in Basel , where he worked for the Hasler & Co. lithography company. Around 1839 he created decorations for the Lucerne City Theater . In addition to the theater decorations, he created numerous watercolors with cityscapes, which later appeared in the form of lithographs. He also painted historical events from Swiss history.
