Conxita Lleó (born February 2, 1943 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish Romanist .

Life

After studying Romance Studies at the University of Barcelona ; Licenciatura (1966) she completed a graduate degree in general linguistics at the University of Washington (USA); MA (1968). After receiving a PhD in General Linguistics ( Ph.D. ) from the University of Washington (1978) and a PhD in Romance Linguistics from the University of Barcelona (1983), she was assistant professor at the Romance Department at the University of Göttingen from 1984 to 1985 . From 1966 to 1969 she was a teaching assistant at the Romance Institute at Washington University. From 1969 to 1970 she was a teaching assistant at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington. From 1970 to 1972 she was an assistant for Romance Linguistics at the University of Barcelona. From 1972 to 1973 she taught as a professor of Romance linguistics at the Institute for Modern Languages ​​at the Universidad de Concepción . From 1974 to 1976 she taught as a professor of linguistics at the Faculty of Education at the University of San Luis (Argentina) . From 1976 to 1984 she was a research assistant for Spanish and Catalan linguistics at the Romance Department in Göttingen . Since 1985 she has been professor C-3 for life in Spanish and Catalan linguistics at the Ibero-American Research Institute of the University of Hamburg .

Her focus areas are phonology, morphology, language acquisition, multilingualism, generative grammar of Spanish, generative grammar of Catalan, Catalan sociolinguistics and optimality theory.
