Coolidge is a city in Limestone County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the north of the county, in east Texas, and has a total area of 2.6 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.
history
The city was founded in 1903 while the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway was moving its tracks from Hillsboro to Mexia . It was named after a partner in the company.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 848 people in 305 households and 208 families lived here. The population density was 337.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 62.38% White, 18.63% African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 15.45% other ethnic groups. About 2.83% were mixed race and 32.08% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 305 households, 39.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 47.2% of these were married couples living together. 15.7% were single mothers and 31.8% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were single households and there were people living in 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.38 people.
31.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 11.8% 18 to 24, 26.9% 25 to 44, 16.9% 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 93.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 23,558 USD , and the median income for a family 27,583 USD. Males had a median income of $ 24,896 versus $ 17,132 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,589. 25.2% of the population and 23.6% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 26.4% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 11.9% were 65 or older.
