Coopernic is a purchasing association of European retail chains . The main objective is to jointly procure internationally tradable goods in order to achieve lower prices and lower the costs of intermediate trade and logistics.

history

The purchasing cooperation was initially founded by five companies on November 25, 2005 and publicly announced in February 2006. It has the legal form of a cooperative and is based in the Belgian capital, Brussels .

Founding members were Colruyt ( Belgium ), Conad ( Italy ), Coop ( Switzerland ), E.Leclerc ( France ) and the REWE Group ( Germany ). In 2006, these companies achieved total sales of 96 billion euros and were represented in 17 countries. The five members each had two representatives on the Board of Directors.

In November 2007 it was also announced that Coopernic had acquired 80 percent of the shares in IKI , a retail chain in Lithuania and Latvia with an annual turnover of 635 million euros (forecast for 2007).

In September 2013, the REWE Group, Colruyt, Conad and Coop Switzerland announced the separation from E.Leclerc at the end of the year due to "irreconcilable differences about the future form and strategic direction" of the alliance. The four companies founded a new organization called Core at the beginning of 2014 .

With the departure of four of the five members, Coopernic initially seemed to have ended. However, Coop Italia joined in October 2014, followed by the Belgian Delhaize Group at the beginning of 2015 .
