Coopers Town is the capital of Great Abaco Island , one of the islands of the Abaco Archipelago , which belongs to the island state of the Bahamas . Coopers Town is located on the second largest island in the Bahamas, and today has around 900 inhabitants.
The place is the northernmost population center of the Bahamas. The first settlers came from the Cooper family and came from the Grand Bahamas .
The first industries were growing grapefruit and mining sea sponges , but these two industries went under in the last century.
The most prominent resident of Coopers Town was the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Ingraham .
