Copa dos Campeões Estaduais
The Copa dos Campeões Estaduais , in German Cup of State Champions , was a Brazilian soccer competition for club teams that was held in 1920 and 1936. Participants were the national champions of the strongest states. Club Athletico Paulistano and Atlético Mineiro were the winners of the two draws .
The predecessor of the tournament is the Taça Ioduran held between 1917 and 1919 , a comparison of the performance of the national champions of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In the first play of the Copa dos Campeões, a third participant was added with the national champion of Minas Gerais. In 1936 the tournament was held for the second time and the field of participants was increased again.
In 1914, a Taça dos Campeões Estaduais was held between top clubs from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Under this and similar names there were further tournaments at more or less irregular intervals until 1986. From 1933 the Torneio Rio-São Paulo began to establish itself as a competition of the top clubs of both states, which finally mutated into the Brazilian championship in the early 1970s .
Copa dos Campeões Estaduais 1920
The 1920 tournament was played in league format in Rio de Janeiro in March . This was the first club competition that was held by the Confederação Brasileira de Deportes , the predecessor organization of the CBF . Participants were the following titleholders from 1919:
- the national champions of Rio de Janeiro : Fluminense FC
- the state champion of São Paulo : Club Athletico Paulistano
- the national champion of Rio Grande do Sul : Grêmio Esportivo Brasil from Pelotas

Club Athletico Paulistano was the winner with the following team: Arnaldo - Orlando Pereira, Carlito - Sérgio Pereira, Zito, (Mariano), Clodoaldo - Zonzo, Mário, Friedenreich , Botelho, Cassiano.
Copa dos Campeões Estaduais 1936
The 1936 tournament was organized in January 1937 by the Federação Brasileira de Futebol and held in league format with home and away games in the participants' hometowns. Participants were state champions from 1936 and the delegation of the sports club of the navy who qualified internally. In detail they were
- the national champions of Rio de Janeiro : Fluminense FC from Rio de Janeiro
- the state champion of São Paulo : Associação Portuguesa de Desportos from São Paulo
- the national champion of Minas Gerais : Atlético Mineiro from Belo Horizonte
- the champion of Espírito Santo : Rio Branco AC from Vitória
- the national champion of Guanabara : SC Aliança from Campos dos Goytacazes
- and Liga de Sports da Marinha , naval sports club from Rio de Janeiro
Atlético Mineiro, Fluminense and Portuguesa were automatically qualified for the main competition. The other participants had to play qualifying games:

The winner was Atlético Mineiro , who then and still feels like the first Brazilian champion, with the following line-up: Kafunga, Clóvis - Florindo, Quim - Zezé Procópio, Lola, Bala, Alcindo - Paulista, Abraz, Alfredo Bernardino, Bazzoni, Guará, Nicola, Resende, Elair - Trainer: Floriano Peixoto The team usually started in a 2-3-5 scheme.
