Copic ( Japanese: コ ピ ッ ク , Kopikku ) is a Japanese manufacturer of alcohol-based markers that belongs to the Too Group based in Minato , Tokyo . They are available in different designs and models, all of which are equipped with polyester tips and are refillable. Copic markers are mainly used by professional users in the fields of product design , graphic design , illustration , fashion drawing , for the layout of media and in architecture for marking and coloring. They are also enjoying increasing popularity with mangaka and cartoonists .

The alcohol-based ink contained in Copic markers is quick-drying, but can be blended or mixed very well if you work quickly. In contrast to other felt-tip pens, alcohol-based markers blur the line between drawing and painting . Sharp contours are just as possible as soft shading.

A special marker paper should be used when working with Copic markers. This is coated on one side and prevents the ink from bleeding through the paper. Toner is not dissolved, so Copics are also suitable for coloring photocopies . The alcohol-based ink contained in Copic markers dries smudge-proof and waterproof and is not lightfast .

Copic also offers other products, such as the appropriate marker paper and the multiliner.

Copic marker

Copic offers different product lines, which differ particularly in the nature of their tip and the choice of colors.

These four lines are currently offered:

  • Copic Classic

These markers have a chisel tip and a fine line tip with which the ink can be applied either flat or very precisely. Seven other tips are also available, which can be exchanged as required. Copic Classic markers are available in 214 colors.

  • Copic Sketch

The Copic Sketch line is equipped with a chisel tip and a brush tip. This flexible brush tip allows the finest line widths and a paint application that comes very close to that of a brush. The tips of this marker can also be exchanged as required. Copic sketch markers are available in 358 colors.

  • Copic Ciao

The Ciao markers are the cheapest line from the manufacturer. They contain less ink than the sketch markers, but also have a flexible brush tip and a chisel tip. In contrast to Classic and Sketch, which have a square shape, the Ciao markers are round. Copic Ciao markers are available in 180 colors.

  • Copic Wide

These markers are equipped with a 21 mm wide tip. They are particularly suitable for coloring large areas. By placing the tip in different ways, finer lines can also be created. Copic wide markers are available in 36 colors.

Copic multiliner

The Copic Multiliner is an ink pen that is offered in combination with the markers.

There are two different types of multiliner available:

  • Multiliner Classic

The classic multiliner is available in black. There are six different line widths between 0.05 and one millimeter, as well as two brush tip tips in the sizes "small" and "medium". The pigment ink is resistant to UV light as well as copier, smudge and waterproof. The sizes 0.05, 0.1 mm and 0.3 mm are also available in the colors sepia and gray.

  • Multiliner SP

The Multiliner SP, which consists of an aluminum housing, is available in ten different line widths, including a brush tip. The tips are between 0.03 and 0.7 millimeters thick and interchangeable. In addition, the ink cartridge is also replaceable here.

The Multiliner SP is also available in twelve different colors as the Multiliner SP Color, but only the 0.3 mm size and the brush tip are available.
