The Copland peak is approximately 500 m high mountain in the southwest of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It rises 5 km northeast of the Mussorgsky Peaks on the Derocher Peninsula .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using aerial photographs from the United States Navy from 1967 to 1968 as well as Landsat photographs from 1972 and 1973. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1988 after the American composer Aaron Copland (1900– 1990).
