The Coquet is a river in Northumberland in northern England .
It rises in the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland National Park and flows through the entire county of Northumberland past Harbottle, Holystone and Rothbury in numerous turns, before flowing into the North Sea after about 40 miles just after Warkworth near Amble .
The first written mention of the Coquet can be found in the cosmography of the geographer of Ravenna from the 7th century, where he is referred to as Coccoveda . Beda Venerabilis mentions the Coquet in his Vita Sancti Cuthberti as Cocuedi fluminis .
