Coregonus nobilis , knownas noble fish on Lake Lucerne , is a freshwater fish from the subfamily Coregoninae in the order of the salmon-like (Salmoniformes).

features

Coregonus nobilis has a herring-like shape, it has a silvery sheen. Like all vendace , it has an adipose fin . It reaches a maximum length of 34 cm.

Occurrence

Coregonus nobilis is endemic to Lake Lucerne in Switzerland . Due to the water eutrophication prevailing there at that time, it was thought to be extinct in the 1970s, but after the turn of the millennium it was noticed that it had remained in the lake. As the water quality is improving again today, its population seems to be growing too. In the Red List of IUCN 's Coregonus nobilis listed as uncritical (Least Concern).

Way of life

Coregonus nobilis lives pelagic and lives mainly at a depth between 5 and 30 m, but for spawning it also migrates to depths between 80 and 200 m in the months from July to September. Mainly it feeds on crustaceans .
