Corina Căprioriu

Corina Oana Căprioriu , after marriage to Corina Stefan , (born July 18, 1986 in Lugoj ) is a former Romanian judoka . She competed internationally in the lightweight (up to 57 kg).

Athletic career

Căprioriu was third in the 2002 Cadet European Championships, in 2004 she took second place in the Junior European Championships. In 2006 she won her first Romanian national championship title, in 2007 and 2010 (in light middleweight) two more titles followed. At the 2010 European Judo Championships in Vienna, she won the title by beating local hero Sabrina Filzmoser in the final . At the Judo World Championships 2010 in Tokyo, she won her first four fights, but then lost in the semifinals to the Japanese Kaori Matsumoto ; she lost the battle for bronze against the Greek Ioulieta Boukouvala and finally finished fifth. In 2011 she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Istanbul, but lost there to Sabrina Filzmoser. In the battle for bronze she won against the Italian Giulia Quintavalle . The World Championships took place in Paris in 2011. In the quarterfinals she was defeated by the Japanese Aiko Satō , but then fought her way through to the bronze medal in the hope round .

At the 2012 Olympics , she reached the final with four wins and received the silver medal after losing to Kaori Matsumoto. It was not until the 2015 World Championships in Astana that she returned to the medal ranks in international championships. After four wins, she lost again in the final against Matsumoto. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she won her first two fights, after losing to the Brazilian Rafaela Silva in the semifinals, she lost the duel for bronze against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro .
