Laurence Gordon "Corky" Laing (* 26. January 1948 ) is a Canadian rock - drummer best known as a member of the American hard rock - band Mountain .

biography

Born in Montreal , Québec , Laing was the youngest of five siblings. He has an older sister, Carol, followed by three boys: Jeffrey, Leslie and Stephen, and finally Corky. Corky's brothers always called him "Gorky" because they couldn't say Gordon. Perhaps that was the origin of his nickname.

After starting to play drums in 1961, he drummed for the legendary vocal group The Ink Spots . He later played in the band Energy, which was transferred to ex- Cream producer Felix Pappalardi . In 1969, Corky left Energy to replace ND Smart in Mountain's predecessor . They released 3 albums in 2 years - one with the classic Mississippi Queen .

After separating in 1971, Mountain member Leslie West and Laing brought Jack Bruce to live with them, and they formed a power trio ( West, Bruce and Laing ). They produced 2 studio albums and a live album just before Mountain reunited. Mountain released Avalanche and the live album Twin Peaks in 1974 . Laing has continued with Mountain to this day, releasing the Bob Dylan cover album Masters of War in 2007 .

In 2003, Laing and Leslie West wrote Nantucket Sleighride and Other Mountain on-the-Road Stories, a chronicle of her heyday with Mountain and her career in the years that followed. Laing recorded “Stick It!” With Cory Bruyea in Oakville, Ontario in 2007, the set version of his memoir.
