David Rea
David Rea (born January 19, 1831 in New Marion , Ripley County , Indiana , † June 13, 1901 in Savannah , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1879 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .
Career
David Rea attended public schools in his home country. In 1842 he moved with his parents to Andrew County , Missouri, where he initially worked in agriculture. Between 1849 and 1854 he was also active as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1862, he began to work in Savannah in this profession. During the civil war he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Union army . After the war, he continued his legal practice in Savannah. He also became a member of the local education committee.
Politically, Rea was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Isaac Charles Parker on March 4, 1875 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1879 . In 1878, Rea lost to Nicholas Ford of the Greenback Party . After leaving the US House of Representatives, he practiced again as a lawyer in Savannah, where he died on June 13, 1901.
