Joseph Henry Burrows (born May 15, 1840 in Manchester , Great Britain , †  April 28, 1914 in Cainsville , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Even in his youth, the native came Englishman Joseph Burrows with his parents to the United States, where the family in Quincy ( Illinois settled). There and in Keokuk ( Iowa ) he attended the public schools. In the following years he worked first in trade and later in agriculture. From 1862 he lived in Cainsville, Missouri. In 1867, Burrows was ordained a minister. At the same time he began a political career. From 1870 to 1874 and again from 1878 to 1880 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives . He was a member of the short-lived Greenback Party .

In the congressional election of 1880 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Gideon Frank Rothwell on March 4, 1881 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Martin L. Clardy in 1882 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1883 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Burrows returned to farming. He also continued his activity as a clergyman. He died in Cainsville on April 28, 1914.
