Gideon Frank Rothwell

Gideon Frank Rothwell (born April 24, 1836 in Fulton , Missouri , †  January 18, 1894 in Moberly , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gideon Rothwell attended the University of Missouri at Columbia . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1864, he began to work in this profession in Huntsville . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1878 Rothwell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Henry Moses Pollard on March 4, 1879 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1880, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1881 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to practice as a lawyer. From 1889 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Missouri; from 1890 to 1894 he served as its president. Gideon Rothwell died in Moberly on January 18, 1894.
