John Welborn (politician)

John Welborn (born November 20, 1857 in Aullville , Lafayette County , Missouri , †  October 27, 1907 in Lexington , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Welborn attended the public schools in his home country. After studying law in Warrensburg and being admitted to the bar in 1880, he began working in this profession in Lexington. In the years 1890 and 1891 he was a City Recorder in this city. He also served there as mayor for a few years from 1896.

Politically, Welborn was a member of the Republican Party . In 1900 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia , where President William McKinley was nominated for re-election. In the congressional elections of 1904 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Democrat Courtney W. Hamlin on March 4, 1905 , whom he had defeated in the election. Since he lost to Hamlin in 1906, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1907 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Welborn practiced as a lawyer again. He died the same year he left Congress on October 27, 1907, in Lexington, where he was buried.
