James Alexander Daugherty

James Alexander Daugherty (born August 30, 1847 in Athens , McMinn County , Tennessee , †  January 26, 1920 in Carterville , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Daugherty attended public schools in his home country. In 1867 he came to Jasper County , Missouri with his parents . There he took an active part in public affairs and was involved in politics at the district and state level. He was also active in agriculture, livestock and mining. He was involved in building the lead and tin mines in Missouri. From 1890 to 1896 he served as a judge in western Jasper County. Daugherty was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1897 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives . He also got into banking and became President of the First National Bank of Carterville. He held this post between 1907 and 1920, including during his time as a congressman.

In the 1910 congressional election , Daugherty was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Charles Henry Morgan on March 4, 1911 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1912, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1913 . After he left the US House of Representatives, James Daugherty resumed his previous activities. Since 1919 he was the chief district judge in Jasper County. He died on January 26, 1920 in Carterville.
