James Henry McLean

James Henry McLean (born August 13, 1829 in Ayrshire , Scotland , †  August 12, 1886 in Dansville , New York ) was an American politician . In 1882 and 1883 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James McLean was born in Scotland and grew up in Nova Scotia ( Canada on). In 1842 he settled in Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania down), where he was a clerk in a pharmacy. In 1849 he moved to St. Louis , Missouri, and a year later to New Orleans , Louisiana . There he was responsible for the finances of the López expedition to Cuba . In 1851 he returned to St. Louis. After studying medicine at St. Louis Medical College and being admitted as a doctor in 1863, he began to work there in his new profession.

Politically, McLean joined the Republican Party . After the death of MP Thomas Allen , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the second seat of Missouri , where he took up his new mandate on December 15, 1882. Until March 3, 1883, however, he only ended the current legislative period. Then he retired from politics. James McLean died on August 12, 1886 in Dansville, New York and was buried in St. Louis.
