Jack Buechner

John William "Jack" Buechner (born June 4, 1940 in Kirkwood , Missouri , † March 6, 2020 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician ( Republican ). Between 1987 and 1991 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jack Buechner attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1962 the Benedictine College in Atchison ( Kansas ). After a subsequent law degree at Saint Louis University and his admission as a lawyer in 1965, he began to work in St. Louis County in this profession. He also worked in the real estate industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1972 and 1982 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives ; in 1964, 1980 and 1988 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the 1986 congressional elections , Buechner was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Robert A. Young on January 3, 1987 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1991 . There he was a member of the Budget Committee and the Science and Technology Committee . He was considered a rather conservative MP.

In 1990 Buechner was defeated by the Democrat Joan Kelly Horn . After leaving Congress, he worked as an attorney in various Washington law firms. Between 2001 and 2005 he was President of the National Republican Institute for International Affairs . After that he continued his legal practice. Buechner was married three times and has three children.
