John Jameson (politician)
John Jameson (born March 6, 1802 in Mount Sterling , Montgomery County , Kentucky , † January 24, 1857 in Fulton , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1839 and 1849 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives several times .
Career
John Jameson attended public schools in his home country. In 1825 he moved to Callaway County, Missouri. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1826, he began to work in Fulton in this profession. In this city he also held various local offices. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1830 and 1836 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives , whose speaker he was in 1834 and 1836.
After the death of MP Albert Galliton Harrison , Jameson was elected to his successor in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 12, 1839 when the by-election was due for the first Missouri seat . Since he renounced a candidacy in 1840, he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1841 . In the elections of 1842 Jameson was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the first district of his state, where he succeeded John Cummins Edwards on March 4, 1843 , who had replaced him two years earlier. In 1844, Jameson again declined to run for office. With that he resigned from parliament on March 3, 1845. Another two years later he was elected to Congress for the third time, where he completed a final legislative period between March 4, 1847 and March 3, 1849. This was determined by the events of the Mexican-American War .
After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Jameson was ordained a minister. He also worked in agriculture. During the Black Hawk War he was used as a captain. John Jameson died in Fulton on January 24, 1857.
