Charles Nelson Clark (born August 21, 1827 in Cortland County , New York , †  October 4, 1902 in Hannibal , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Clark attended Hamilton College in Clinton . In 1859 he moved to Illinois . When the civil war broke out , he set up a cavalry unit with which he served in the Union Army . In 1863, Clark lost his left arm and had to quit military service. In April 1865 he settled in Hannibal, Missouri. He was interested in the land of the original course of the Mississippi River and made it usable for agriculture.

Politically, Clark belonged to the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Democrat William H. Hatch on March 4, 1895 . Until March 3, 1897 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Charles Clark returned to farming. He died on October 4, 1902 in Hannibal.
